Area Attractions
The Valier area is full of beautiful scenery and many outdoor
and indoor activities. Located conveniently between Great Falls and Glacier
National Park on highway 44. Highway 44 is a scenic shortcut to Glacier, and
has more Lewis and Clark attractions available than Highway 2.
Valier is an excellent place to stay, whether it is your
destination, or you're just passing through.
Stone School Inn - 3 blocks straight west and 3
blocks south of the intersection on Highway 44 in Valier. This early Montana School, built in 1911, has been listed on
the National Register of Historic Places.
Lake Frances - Lake Frances is well known for its
year-round walleye, pike, perch fishing, and annual fishing derbies. Water
sports such as wind surfing, water-skiing, and swimming are also popular. The
Lake Frances camp ground has a public playground and a dump station. Winters
make the lake into a huge ice skating arena.
Swift Dam - Just west of Valier on Birch Creek, Swift
Dam, is a beautiful place for hiking, fishing, and enjoying an afternoon of
beautiful scenery and wildlife.
Lewis and Clark Confrontation Site - This site is
approximately fifteen miles North of Valier, and is the site where the Lewis and
Clark Expedition first encountered the Blackfeet Nation.
Rock City - A local undeveloped secret, sandstone
formations or hoodoos which provide beautiful views and hours of uninterrupted
exploration. One point overlooks the the point where Birch Creek merges with the
Two Medicine River. Hiking along the river bed almost guarantees that you will
discover fossils and petrified wood. The natural prairie grass also homes some
original teepee rings.
Hutterite Colonies - Several local Hutterite colonies
welcome guests to their farmer's markets.
Homesteader Day - A small town celebration on the last
Saturday in June that includes a morning parade, carnival activities for the
kids, Art in the Park, live music and dance, and barbequed roast beef sandwiches
made by the volunteer fire department.
Independence Day Celebration - A spark is in the air, as
picnics are shared, and the evening is capped off with a fireworks display.
People come from neighboring towns to share in the festivities, and it is the
only time of the year we have a traffic jam. The best view in town just happens
to be from the 2nd story patio of the Stone School Inn. The fireworks display
reflects off of Lake Frances.
Christmas Stroll - The town picks this evening to light
the tree and sing Christmas Carols. Everyone comes to show their wares and some
great deals can be found. Expect a bonfire and hayrides.
